PGA Tour News: Jordan Spieth Pushes Rory McIlroy From Number 1 World Golf Ranking, Jason Day Wins 2015 PGA Championship

Jordan Spieth came up short after finishing second to Jason Day at the PGA Championship this weekend, but he ended up with a prize anyway, as Spieth pushed Rory McIlroy out of the Number 1 World Golf Ranking, which was helped by wins at the Masters and the US Open.

Spieth takes over the number one ranking as the second youngest player to do it behind Tiger Woods and now he becomes the top golfer in the world. According to ESPN.com, Day set a scoring record for his first major win, putting up a 20-under 268 and he finished ahead of Spieth at Whistling Straits. Day and Spieth have both played very well this season and Day had already finished in the top 10 of majors nine times before winning one. Spieth took two majors this year and was in contention in all four.

Spieth now takes over the number one ranking from McIlroy, who had to sit out for a stretch with an injury. Spieth nearly ended up in a playoff for the US Open and he assumed the number one ranking after McIlroy did not finish in at least sixth place. McIlroy finished 17th after putting up a 9-under score and that left Spieth as the number one player in the world.

Spieth comes in after putting up a combined score of 54-under at majors, which was the best since Tiger Woods, according to ESPN Stats & Info. Spieth opened the year as the number nine player in the world and now he is number one.

"It feels really good," Spieth said, according to ESPN.com. "It's an unbelievable feeling."
