NFL Awards Week 6: Peyton Manning Best In AFC After Historic Comeback, Antrel Rolle Tops Defense After Giants Dominate 49ers (VIDEO)

Week 6 of the NFL season saw some amazing performances, including a historic comeback on Monday Night Football by Peyton Manning and the Denver broncos against the San Diego Chargers.

Manning, in his first season back in the NFL after neck surgery, showed why he is one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time by bringing the team back from a 24-0 deficit. The Green Bay Packers looked very impressive on Sunday night, dominating the Houston Texans and handing them their first loss of the season.

On the West coast, the New York Giants showed the form that they had while winning a Super Bowl last season, completely demolishing the San Francisco 49ers 26-3. The team played physical and used a strong defensive effort to deny the 49ers a win.

The 49ers talked a lot during the week about how the Giants "stole" the NFC Championship game last year from them, but New York proved it was no fluke after the convincing win on Sunday.

There were more exciting games and many more exciting performances, but not everyone can be awarded. Here are the winners of the NFL awards for Week 6.

To no surprise in the AFC, Peyton Manning was named Offensive Player of the Week after his record-setting performance against the Chargers.

Facing a 24-0 deficit at halftime, Manning led his team to a 35-24 win, completely shutting out the Chargers in the second half. Manning threw for 309 yards and three touchdowns with only one interception. With the win, the Broncos became the fifth team in league history to overcome a deficit of 24 points.

"It sure was special considering what was on the line," said Manning to the Associated Press.

Manning set a league record with his 22nd weekly award and joins kicker Matt Prater and cornerback Tracy Porter as fellow Broncos who have won weekly awards this season.

Aaron Rodgers won NFC Player of the Week for the second time in three weeks for his performance against the Houston Texans in Green Bay's 42-24 win on Sunday night.

"This was an important game for us," Rodgers said. "We had a couple not go our way, games we should have won and 2-4 would have been very difficult."

Rodgers threw for 338 yards and six touchdowns without any turnovers. According to Packers.com, he is the first player to throw six touchdowns against an undefeated team with five or more wins.

"This is just a team that has a lot of pride in our locker room," Rodgers said. "I said it this week, there's not any quit in that locker room. It's almost better when people are doubting us a little bit, I think. We kind of band together. People tried to pull us apart this week and we stuck together and found our motivation."

Rodgers won his seventh career award and became the "third quarterback in NFL history to complete at least 60 percent of his passes with at least 330 yards and six touchdowns without an interception."

On the defensive side of the ball, Antrel Rolle had a game for the ages for the New York Giants, winning the NFC Defensive Player of the Week award for his play against the San Francisco 49ers.

"I think this is our most complete game all year long," Rolle said.

The team was dominant against the 49ers, and Rolle was the best player in the game, collecting two interceptions off Alex Smith and adding six tackles.

"I could tell, at times, we had him a little rattled," Rolle said of Smith.

Both of Rolle's interceptions were important; each set up scores for the Giants. The award is the fourth career win for Rolle, who also won three times with Arizona in 2007 and 2008. Prince Amukamara also added an interception for the Giants.

The Giants completed a "trifecta" for the weekly awards this week, with Rolle taking the Defensive Award after Hakeem Nicks won NFC Offensive Player of the Week in Week 2 and Lawrence Tynes winning NFC Special Teams Player of the Week in Week 3.

Nicks had 10 catches for 199 yards in his game against Tampa, while Tynes kicked five field goals against the Carolina Panthers.

The last Giant to win the defensive award was Jason Pierre-Paul, who won it twice in Week 14 and 16 in 2011. According to Giants.com, "(Rolle) is the first Giants defensive back cited since Aaron Ross in Week 8 of the 2008 season and the first safety since Percy Ellsworth in Week 16 of the 1998 season. "

Bills safety Jarius Byrd was named AFC Defensive Player of the Week after collecting two interceptions against the Arizona Cardinals in Buffalo's tight 19-16 overtime win on Sunday.

Byrd made plays all over the field during the game and sealed the game for Buffalo by getting an interception in overtime to set up the game-winning field goal. He added four tackles in the game and helped the Bills improve to 3-3, good for first place in the AFC East.
There was no question who would be AFC Special Teams Player of the Week.

Following his record-tying 108-yard kickoff return for a touchdown, Baltimore Ravens kick returner Jacoby Jones won the award. Jones' return helped the Ravens rally to beat the Cowboys and tied Ellis Hobbs and Randall Cobb for the longest return in NFL history.

"We've been talking about getting a big play and breaking a play like that all year, and we have been close," coach John Harbaugh said to ESPN.com. "To set the National Football League record for a kickoff return, in what was the difference in the game, was pretty special."

According to ESPN.com: "Since entering the NFL in 2007, Jones is tied for fifth in the NFL with five returns for touchdowns (three off punts and two off kickoffs)."

It is the fourth award for Jones in his career. He also won in Week 4 of 2009 while with the Houston Texans.

Detroit Lions kicker Jason Hanson had a perfect day on the field, helping his team to beat the Philadelphia Eagles 26-23 on Sunday. He converted all four of his field goals, including the game-winning kick from 45-yards in overtime.

Hanson converted from 46, 34 and 19 yards and has only missed one kick this season.

According to Packers.com, Hanson "was the first ever NFC Special Teams Player of the Week (Week 1, 1993)" and "surpassed Pro Football Hall of Famer Barry Sanders (11) for the most Player of the Week Awards in team history."

Hanson achieved a milestone in the game, passing kicker John Carney for third place on the all-time NFL points list. He now has 2,062 points and kicked 479 field goals in his career.

Week 6 was another exciting time for football and Week 7 should be just as good.
