NFL Injury Update: Ravens Lose Key Defensive Stars, Running Backs Trent Richardson and DeMarco Murray Get Banged Up In Week 6 (UPDATED)

Week 6 of the NFL season saw a range of exciting games and upsets, including a totally dominating performance from the New York Giants against the San Francisco 49ers.

The Seattle Seahawks were able to upset the New England Patriots and the Baltimore Ravens earned a tough win against the Dallas Cowboys. But the Ravens, like other teams around the league, lost and won at the same time, with some key defensive players suffering serious injuries against Dallas, including linebacker Ray Lewis and cornerback Ladarius Webb.

Baltimore won the game 31-29, but the loss of Webb and Lewis could help derail what is shaping up to be a great season for the Ravens.

Lewis, the face of the franchise and a key member of the defense, injured his tricepts in the game and could be lost for the season depending on how serious it is. He will have an MRI on Monday according to ESPN's Ed Werder.

According to Jay Glazer, the injury could be very serious:

"Injury to Ray Lewis, docs don't believe tear in triceps is a complete tear but fear it is deep enough to finish him for the year. He was in too much pain for them to get a good gauge on the sideline. MRI in the AM to see the TRUE extent of it"

UPDATE:

Linebacker Ray Lewis is out for the rest of the regular season after suffering a torn right tricepts in the win versus the Dallas Cowboys.

According to USA Today:

"The injury could mean the end to Lewis' career, if he chooses not to undergo the rehabilitation or can't return to form."

Cornerback Ladarius Webb has become one of the most valuable players for the Ravens defense and could be lost for the season after tearing the ACL in his left knee against the Cowboys.

"Lardarius Webb does not look good right now," coach John Harbaugh said to the Associated Press. "It's a potential ACL. We've got a problem there. We don't know for sure, but that's what it looks like right now."

According to ESPN.com, "Webb has become the top playmaker in the secondary with nine interceptions in the 24 games (including playoffs) since the start of the 2011 season. He broke up 31 passes over that span."

But that wasn't all for the Ravens. The team also will have to deal with a sprained MCL injury for Haloti Ngata and a leg injury to cornerback Jimmy Smith. While both are not considered to be as serious as Webb's injury, it will be something the Ravens will have to overcome.

During that same game the Dallas Cowboys lost their top rusher and playmaker to an injury. Running back DeMarco Murray left the game in the first half after suffering a sprained foot injury. He came back for a snap later in the game but was pulled out after the play.

"I was trying to (get back in), that was their decision to (take) me out," Murray said. "It's a long season. It's only the fifth game, and I have to do what's best for the team."

Murray told ESPN's Ed Werder that he will have an MRI on the foot Monday. The running back gained 93 yards in the game before coming out.

"It was going well and everybody was on the same page and we just got to keep it going," Murray said.

Another young running back was hurt on Sunday, but the injury does not appear to be too serious. Rookie Trent Richardson of the Cleveland Browns suffered a rib injury during the team's game against the Bengals on Sunday.

Richardson took a hard hit to the ribs from a helmet and said he was sore after the game. He will have an MRI on Monday according to ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter. Backup Montario Hardesty took over for Richardson in the game.

"I took a shot, but I'll be back," said Richardson. "I'll be ready for next week."

Richardson had a rough game against the Bengals, rushing for only 37 yards after going for 109 in the team's previous meeting in September. The Browns were able to pull out the game anyway, earning their first win on the season to improve to 1-5.

"You've got to love it," Richardson said. "Montario, he is a beast. A lot of people think Montario is one of those guys that is not going to try to run you over or not going to be in there for the thick and thin, but Montario is one of those guys who is going to give everything he can on each and every play."

The Houston Texans lost linebacker Brian Cushing to a season ending injury in last week's win over the Jets and things did not get better for the team on Sunday night. Houston was blown out by the Packers 42-24 for their first defeat of the year and the team also lost more defensive players to injury.

Both Antoine Caldwell and Tim Jamison were hurt, with Caldwell suffering a concussion and Jamison hurting his Achilles. The two players aren't huge parts of the defense, but one of the team's strengths is its depth and that will be tested with the two player's possibly missing time.

In San Francisco All-Pro lineman Joe Staley was forced to leave the game against the Giants after suffering a concussion. Staley was able to leave the field on his own, but he could miss time if he does not pass the NFL's concussion testing policies this week.

The Arizona Cardinals had to deal with a major injury on Sunday, as quarterback Kevin Kolb had to leave the game against the Buffalo Bills in the fourth quarter. Kolb, who had taken over for starting quarterback John Skelton after an injury, was hit hard by two Bills players while trying to scramble late in the game.

Kolb left the game and will have x-rays to see the extent of the injury.
