New York Jets News: Devin Smith Suffers Injury In Training Camp, Healthy For Week 1?

Jets 2nd round pick, Devin Smith suffered an injury and it was a particularly serious injury in training camp. Smith suffered broken ribs as well as a punctured lung in his first NFL offseason. The injury happened when Smith went to catch a ball that had been deflected and immediately got hit by Jaiquawn Jarrett. Jarrett had this to say about the play,

"I'm sorry to hear about it, but it wasn't like I was intending to hit Devin, you know? It was a play, he was going up and the ball bobbled in the air and he happened to come down. And I was pursuing to him and I started to slow up, and the way he was falling, with his back and my knee I guess his back just hit my knee. So it was something that couldn't be avoided. But I'm sorry that that happened to him."

Smith is looking like the Jets best deep threat however his development will be a bit stunted after this incident. With Smith out wide receivers TJ Graham and Jeremy Kerley will competing for the number three wide receiver spot. Smith has potential to be a starter however with missing most of training camp and the preseason he may not be able to surpass Eric Decker this season.
