According to reports, starting Washington Redskins cornerback Brashaud Breeland has been suspended for one game. Breeland has spent his time with the Redskins taking DeAngelo Hall's starting job however this will come into question with his suspension.

Apparently Breeland was issued a citation for Marijuana around the same time last year. Breeland had to fulfill his community service requirement to the court by filming a PSA for the city of Richmond. It is important to note that it is for possession not consumption of Marijuana which will have brought a harsher penalty. Effectively the NFL is operating on an archaic rule book that is often misused to punish the wrong people at the right time for the NFL.

How a tax exempt, publicly lauded company such as the NFL could be so out of touch with its own employees boggles the mind on a daily basis. Suspensions for a drug that don't even yield suspensions in life anymore just fines, which is why it makes no sense to suspend a player for marijuana; if the government fines you then should the NFL.

In a league where plenty of team's home states have legalized marijuana it is time to stop punishing players for a non-performance enhancing drug. PED use is and will be a bigger problem than marijuana will ever be especially because of the fact that it's cheating. Any way you look at it, it won't help the Redskins in the slightest; they will still lose their starting cornerback in week 1.
