The Baltimore Orioles defeated the New York Yankees in 13 innings after another game that went into extras.

Rookie Manny Machado started things off in the top of the inning with a double in the gap. Nate McLouth moved him over to third and after J.J. Hardy had the count at 2-2 and lacked discipline, but he sent a double to left field, driving in Machado.

The Yankees and the Orioles were tied through most of the game.

The Orioles just could not get runners in as they threatened multiple times throughout the game, but could not get the big hit to plate the runners they had on third base.

Nat McLouth took matters into his own hands breaking a 0-0 tie in the top of the fifth hitting his first career postseason home run.

The Yankees did not take long to tie the game as in the bottom of the sixth they tied the game 1-1 on a grounder to second with runners on first and third. Jeter scored and Mark Teixeira moved to second, but they could not drive him in.

The Yankees had a chance to take a lead in the bottom of the eighth as Alex Rodriguez stepped to the plate with runners on second and third, but he struck out. Nick Swisher then flew out the right field ending the threat.

The starting pitchers did their thing. Phil Hughes went 6.2 innings, struckout eight while giving up one earned run on four hits and three walks.

Joe Saunders went 5.2 with five strikeouts and gave up one earned run on three hits while walking four.
