The Atlanta Braves are going to the playoffs. Freddie Freeman hit a ninth inning walk-off home run as the Braves went on to defeat the Miami Marlins in dramatic fashion.
They were down 3-2 when Chipper Jones stepped up to the plate. He smacked an opposite field double to set the table.
Freeman simply tried to get the ball in the air to score Chipper from third, who advanced on a wild pitch. Freeman hit a shot to dead center and it got the Braves the win.
It was almost poetic justice for Freeman who hit the game-ending double play last season against the Philadelphia Phillies in 2011's Game 162.
Freeman sprinted around the bases and was completely out of breath by the time he was interviewed by reporters. Chipper was bathed with beer and champagne as he was doing his interview in the Braves' locker room.
With the win, the Braves continue rolling when Kris Medlen is on the mound. They have won 22 consecutive games in which he pitches. Also, they get him off the hook for the loss as Medlen gave up three earned runs over seven innings.
The three runs came off the bat of Donovan Solano who drove in the first run of the game on a home run to left field and then gave the Marlins the lead in the top of the seventh with an opposite field shot to right center.
The Braves still have a chance of winning the NL East. They are currently 4.5 back with eight games to go. The Washington Nationals are losing to the Philadelphia Phillies. We will bring you an update from that game as soon as it is over.
