Washington Redskins Rumors: Frank Gore, Vernon Davis, Jermaine Gresham Free Agent Targets For RG3 With Kirk Cousins Trade?

The Washington Redskins may look at some free agent targets this winter, as names like Frank Gore, Vernon Davis, Jermaine Gresham and Cecil Shorts could be options for RG3 and this comes as the team may also consider making a trade with Kirk Cousins, as teams like the Houston Texans and Browns could be interested.

The Redskins are coming into 2015 after finishing last in the NFC East and with some money to spend on the cap, they could look at free agency. The team traded away draft picks for RG3 and they could use some free agent money to make up for not having as much depth moving forward. According to Pro Football Talk, the team may look at Gore, while Jermaine Gresham and Vernon Davis could be potential options at tight end.

Gresham is an athletic option and he is not expected to sign back with the Bengals. Davis could be released by the Niners and he has some connections to the area after playing at Maryland. Pro Football Talk reports that CSN Bay Area's Matt Maiocco writes that Gore could be a prime target for the Redskins, as they need a backup for Alfred Morris and new general manager Scot McCloughan has ties to Gore. McCloughan was the one to draft Gore in San Francisco and he has had high praise for the back in the past.

Gore will be 32 years old next season and while he has been wildly productive in his career, past 30 is when RBs start breaking down. Last season Gore rushed for 1106 yards, his fourth straight season with at least 1100 yards and a 4.0 yards per carry average while playing in 16 games each year. The team could be even more willing to sign Gore if the Redskins let Roy Helu go in free agency.

The Redskins ranked near the bottom of the league in passing yards per game last season and SB Nation writes that cornerback could be a target for the team in the offseason. Walter Thurmond is on the market and so is Byron Maxwell, while Darrelle Revis also could be a fit. Revis is going to cost a ton and he likely will stay with the Patriots, but he could get swayed to sign elsewhere. The Bills and Jets reportedly will go after him, while the Redskins could be an option if he leaves New England.

According to ESPN.com, Adam Schefter writes that Kirk Cousins could be a trade target this offseason for teams in need of a QB. Cousins wants the chance to start and with McCloughan supporting RG3 this offseason, there is a good chance he could get moved. Cousins was up and down last season, playing in six games and passing for 10 touchdowns and nine interceptions for 1710 yards.

Davis is another potential target for the Redskins, as he is likely to get released by the Niners this offseason as a salary cap casualty. Davis is a top tight end talent wise, but he dealt with various injuries this season and was not very productive. Davis is making over four million and could get released and Washington could be a potential fit. Davis went to Maryland for college and Washington may want to add another TE behind Niles Paul and Jordan Reed.
