Washington Redskins Rumors: Darrelle Revis, Byron Maxwell, Frank Gore Free Agent Targets With Kirk Cousins Trade For RG3?

The Washington Redskins expect major changes in 2015 after brining in a new GM and names like Darrelle Revis, Byron Maxwell, Frank Gore, Virgil Green and Cecil Shorts could be potential options in free agency for Robert Griffin III, while a trade with Kirk Cousins over RG3 is a possibility of head coach Jay Gruden this offseason.

The Redskins had another tough season in 2014 after going 4-12 and finishing last in NFC East and now with general manager Scot McCloughan hired, the team could have some new faces in 2015. According to John Keim at ESPN on the Redskins blog, names like Darrelle Revis, Byron Maxwell, Frank Gore, Virgil Green and Dan Connolly could be potential targets for the team, while Brian Orakpo and Niles Paul as well as Roy Helu are players that could return as free agents.

According to Pro Football Talk, the Redskins may look at Frank Gore as a potential option in free agency, as he connections to new GM Scot McCloughan. CSN Bay Area reports that McCloughan is a "huge fan" of Gore and he was the one who drafted him in San Francisco and may look at him as a backup for Alfred Morris. The Niners are likely to let Gore walk in free agency, as they have Carlos Hyde coming in after a solid rookie season and he could take over as the starter.

Gore has been one of the most consistent running backs in the league during his time in San Francisco and he comes in after rushing for over 1100 yards last season. 49ers GM Trent Baalke has said to CSN that he wants Gore back, but that doesn't mean the team necessarily will sign him. The Niners may have some tough salary cap issues coming up and they also have Michael Crabtree hitting free agency. Adam Schefter at ESPN.com added that the team could look at cutting Ahmad Brooks or Vernon Davis to free up some cap space.

Gore will be 32 years old next season and while he has been wildly productive in his career, past 30 is when RBs start breaking down. Last season Gore rushed for 1106 yards, his fourth straight season with at least 1100 yards and a 4.0 yards per carry average while playing in 16 games each year. The team could be even more willing to sign Gore if the Redskins let Roy Helu go in free agency.

The Redskins ranked near the bottom of the league in passing yards per game last season and SB Nation writes that cornerback could be a target for the team in the offseason. Walter Thurmond is on the market and so is Byron Maxwell, while Darrelle Revis also could be a fit. Revis is going to cost a ton and he likely will stay with the Patriots, but he could get swayed to sign elsewhere. The Bills and Jets reportedly will go after him, while the Redskins could be an option if he leaves New England.

Virgil Green has been mentioned as a target as well, as he is hitting the market along with Niles Paul and if Paul doesn't return, Green could be a cheap option to play behind Jordan Reed. The Redskins also reportedly may look at a Kirk Cousins trade this offseason and after Johnny Manziel's rehab, the Browns could be an option.
