Olympics 2012 Men's Water Polo Results: Montenegro Defeats Spain, Moves on to Semifinals

Montenegro's Men's Water Polo team defeated Spain on Wednesday to earn a trip into the semifinals. They won by the score of 11-9 in a close match at the 2012 London Olympics.

Montenegro's Boris Zlokovic was the game-high scorer with four goals at pivotal points in the match. 

He made the first goal of the game to give Montenegro the 1-0 advantage. Then with less than two minutes left in the first quarter and Montenegro down by one, he tied the score at four. 

Zlokovic's next two goals gave Montenegro cushions. His third goal came with just over two minutes left in the second quarter. Zlokovic scored giving his team a 7-5 lead. His last goal came in the third quarter, which game Montenegro a 10-6 advantage.

Spain scored three times to tighten up the score in the last quarter. 

15 seconds into the fourth quarter, Xavier Trias Valles scored a goal for Spain to cut the lead down to three. Then with just over four minutes left Javier Gadea Garcia gave the Spaniards even more hope with a goal, placing them just two points behind. 

Alferez Minguell made it 10-9 with a score with 2:13 left to play, but Nikola Janovic of Montenegro gave his team an insurance goal wrapping up the score at 11-9. 

Montenegro will now wait for a challenger from the Croatia and United States match later in the day.
