NY Jets Rumors: Rex Ryan Fired Hurts Geno Smith Future? Marcus Mariota, Robert Griffin III QB Options as Michael Vick, Percy Harvin Out in Free Agency

The fate of Rex Ryan is sealed. Despite getting one final win on the season in Week 17, the New York Jets are prepared to clear house which includes a number of changes in the front office and also the player personnel heading in 2015. The Jets season can simply be summed up as disappointing after notching just four wins on the season following up last year's disappointing season. With Ryan out along with general manager John Idzik, was does the future hold for players like Geno Smith?

ESPN.com has reported that Ryan is out in New York after a meeting with owner Woody Johnson. This has been a move brewing for several weeks considering the team's struggles. Many believed that Ryan would be fired before the start of 2014, but the Jets gave him another chance and things did not work out. According to ESPN, Ryan had already cleaned out his office earlier in the week. After the 37-24 win over the Miami Dolphins, Ryan decline to comment on his future with the team.

"I don't think it's the appropriate time to talk about my situation," Ryan said, via ESPN.com. "Just understand that I'm not afraid of anything. I'm not afraid of what lies ahead. I can tell you that."

Now the questions do not revolve around the future of Ryan, but the future of Smith at quarterback. The second-year pro has been given much of the blame regarding the struggles of the Jets. He has failed to truly develop into an NFL talent or show signs of having the potential. According the Smith, he plans on being the solution to the problem in New York, but it is unclear if he will get that chance.

"I see myself being the quarterback here for a long time," Smith said, via the New York Post. "I see myself helping this team turn things around. Obviously, I'm a part of the reason why we are in this position, so I'd love to be a part of the solution."

The Jets will earn a high draft pick for their four wins and the Post is reporting that they do plan on targeting Marcus Mariota in the draft. However, that will likely cost them a lot as the team would need to jump to the top spot in order to get the Oregon star. If Mariota is not an option, they have the chance at grabbing Jameis Winston.

NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport is also linking the Jets to a trade for Robert Griffin III if he becomes available from the Washington Redskins. All this points to the exit of Michael Vick in free agency along with potentially Percy Harvin who is a huge salary cap hit in 2015. If the Jets truly decide to clean house, he could be a part of it.
