The Memphis Grizzlies and San Antonio Spurs are playing a divisional matchup on the NBA schedule on Wednesday and the game has two of the best teams in the league matching up at the AT&T Center, as the Grizz lead the division and things start up at 8:30 pm ET as Marc Gasol, Tim Duncan and Tony Parker get into action in the southwest division.
The Spurs are the conference and NBA champs from last season, while the Grizzlies are looking like the best team overall with the Warriors in the league. The team just snapped the Warriors 16 game winning streak and now they come in looking to knock off the Spurs. The team has the Chicago Bulls to make for two matchups of tough teams on the schedule and this game with the Spurs is a nice test.
The Spurs play well at home and that will give the Grizzlies a chance to test their mettle against a champion and Marc Gasol comes in playing like one. Gasol is averaging a career high in points and he had 24 in the game against the Warriors, while Zach Randolph had 10 rebounds. The team is 20-4 on the season and they are ranked in the top 10 this year in points per game, assists and points allowed. The team is fourth in scoring defense and they are ranked in the top half of the league in rebounds per game.
The Spurs come into the game after a loss against the Blazers and they will finish a home and home with the Blazers after playing the Grizzlies. The team comes in at 17-8 on the season and they are ranked in the top three in scoring defense and sixth in assists per game. The team is also averaging 101 points per game and they have been getting some strong play from Kawhi Leonard.
Leonard comes in after leading the team with 21 points and nine rebounds against the Blazers and he is there with Tony Parker as the leading scorers for the team. Duncan, Parker and Manu Ginobili know that the season is a marathon and this is a great early matchup that could play out in the playoffs once again. The Grizzlies are looking strong and many have picked them as the team to make it out of the west.
