Washington Redskins Rumors: Robert Griffin III Starting Job In Question For Jay Gruden As RG3 Trade Option Over Contract Extension?

The Washington Redskins lost yet again on Sunday and Robert Griffin III struggled in the offense for Jay Gruden and now his future in DC could be in doubt, as RG3 has a contract option coming and if that is not picked up, he could be on his way out of town and the team may consider making a trade after the haul they gave up to draft the quarterback a few years ago.

The Redskins have been struggling this season and reports heading into Sunday had Gruden ready to pull Griffin if he struggled and while that did not happen, moving forward he could be benched. According to ESPN.com, the future for Griffin in DC is "unclear" after the way he has played in recent weeks, as it appears that Griffin has regressed since where he was his rookie season. Griffin led the team to the playoffs and looked like a legit starter for years to come, but after dealing with injuries and other issues, it looks like Griffin now is a major questions mark.

The Redskins are 3-8 on the season and look to be heading towards another top 10 draft pick and after all the picks the team game up to draft RG3, the team could continue to take major steps backwards. RG3 does not appear to be the quarterback of the future anymore for the Redskins and that could once again create a power struggle in the franchise. Gruden is a savvy offensive mind, but owner Dan Snyder loves Griffin and it's likely he will not be looking to get rid of him anytime soon.

Griffin is a face of the franchise type player, but right now he is not playing that way and that could cause friction on the team and within the front office. This past week Griffin went for 106 yards and was sacked five times while also losing a fumble and now Gruden could be forced to make a move. Alfred Morris has continued to play well, but Griffin has been a mess and now the Redskins are once again at the bottom of the NFC East division standings.

The Redskins now have lost three straight since winning over the Cowboys in overtime on Monday night football and they have five tough games to finish the season. The team plays next against the Indianapolis Colts and that will be on the road and after that they have a game at home against the Rams. The Rams D has been playing very well as of late and then the team ends with three straight divisional games, which are always tough matchups.

The team hits the road to play the Giants in Week 15 and after that they have two home games against the Eagles and the Cowboys. Two years ago the Redskins were making the playoffs and now they have had two straight seasons of terrible records. Griffin has been injured over the past two years and that has been a major factor, but now that his play has regressed so much, there are a ton of questions moving forward for the Redskins. A trade with Griffin could be extreme, but after all they gave up for him, there's no way they can allow him to leave as a free agent if that comes to pass down the line.
