MLB Playoff Standings 2014: AL and NL Division Leaders and Wild Card Records Into August

The MLB standings in 2014 heading towards the playoffs has AL and NL division leaders in the Baltimore Orioles, Detroit Tigers, Oakland Athletics, Washington Nationals, Milwaukee Brewers and LA Dodgers, while the American and National League wild card teams has the Los Angeles Angels, Toronto Blue Jays, San Francisco Giants and Atlanta Braves heading into August.

The AL East has the Baltimore Orioles leading the Blue Jays and the Yankees, while the Rays are eight games out and the Red Sox have given up with the trades they have made. The AL Central has the biggest lead in the league, with the Tigers up five games on the Royals and one more on the Indians. The AL West has the Oakland Athletics, but the LA Angels are very close and they could jump ahead if they keep playing this well.

The NL east has the Washington Nationals and the Atlanta Braves battling for the division, while Miami is still alive in the standings. The NL Central has the Brewers battling with the Cardinals and Pirates and they are up two games, while the Dodgers lead the Giants by three games.

The American League wild card standings has the LA Angels in the first spot and they are still alive in the AL west, while the Blue Jays are now in the second spot. The Seattle Mariners and NY Yankees are three games back and they both made moves at the deadline, while the Royals, Indians and Rays are also right there. The Rays dealt David Price and Ben Zobrist and now they could fade a bit, while the Mariners traded for Austin Jackson and the Yankees added Stephen Drew and Martin Prado.

The National League wild card has the San Francisco Giants and Atlanta Braves leading for now, but the St. Louis Cardinals and Pittsburgh Pirates are just one game out and they both made moves at the deadline. The Miami Marlins and Cincinnati Reds are 4.5 games back in the wild card right now and this is going to be a scrum down to the end. The Central division is not settled and both the west and east have teams closing in and basically if you don't win the division, there is no guarantee you will be in the wild card.
