2014 American League MLB Standings: New York Yankees, Oakland Athletics Best Records, Detroit Tigers Lead Divisions In AL

The 2014 American League baseball MLB standings has the New York Yankees, Oakland Athletics and the Detroit Tigers as the best teams and division leaders heading into the third week of the season and NY has played much better since getting off to a slow start, including on Wednesday when they swept a doubleheader with the Chicago Cubs with Masahiro Tanaka and Michael Pineda winning the games on the mound.

Oakland comes in with the most wins and the best record, as they are 10-5 on the season and are leading the American League west. The Yankees are one game back right now at 9-6 and they are ahead of the Toronto Blue Jays in the standings by a half game and they now are the leaders of the AL East as they get set to visit the Tampa Bay Rays for a series in Florida.

The Detroit Tigers are next in the standings and while they have just six wins, they also have five losses and that is tied for the most with the A's in the American League. The Tigers are ahead of the Chicago White Sox in the AL Central standings and overall in the AL they are ahead of the Texas Rangers, Baltimore Orioles, Cleveland Indians and Seattle Mariners, who are a half-game ahead of the Angels, Tampa Bay Rays, Twins and Kansas City Royals in the overall standings.

The Yankees pulled ahead of the Blue Jays in the AL East and now they lead the Rays and Orioles as well as the Red Sox, who are in the bottom of the division right now after winning the World Series last season. The AL Central division has the Tigers leading the Chicago White Sox, Indians, Twins and Kansas City Royals, while the A's are over the Texas Rangers and Seattle Mariners. The Angels and the Houston Astros are in the bottom of the division.
