Seattle Mariners Rumors: Stephen Drew, Kendrys Morales Free Agent Options After Injuries As New York Yankees Say No To Contracts

The New York Yankees are dealing with a ton of injuries and while free agents Stephen Drew and Kendrys Morales are on the market, the team is not interested in signing either player due to the price tag on their contracts, while the Seattle mariners could also look to sign one of the players to get some offense into their lineup after dealing with injuries themselves.

Drew and Morales each have been sitting on the market since the offseason after turning down the qualifying offers for their teams, as they had hoped for better deals. According to Hardball Talk, the draft pick compensation and price tag on both players is too high and even though the Yanks have tough injury issues, they will use in-house players for now to take care of it. The Yankees don't have much in their farm system, but Dean Anna and Yangervis Solarte have been solid to start the season, but that won't be enough for the team.

The Yankees had Derek Jeter sit out two games and with Mark Teixeira on the DL, Kelly Johnson had to shift over to first base and that leaves third base opened up. The Yankees can use Russ Canzler or Scott Sizemore if they recall them from Triple A and with Brendan Ryan injured, the Yanks need some more depth at shortstop behind Jeter.

The Seattle Mariners suffered a rash of injuries and an offensive power outage this past week, but they too have not looked to sign their former player in Morales. The price tag has been an issue and the same goes for Drew, as he is looking for a multi-year deal. Both players have been stuck on the sidelines and Scott Boras has been very vocal about the reasons why and now the two players are looking to get back to work.

The Yankees need to replace Mark Teixeira and the team also has a number of other injuries coming down, including Francisco Cervelli, who left the game on Sunday against the Red Sox. Now the team has issues at first base and third and the team also is dealing with another injury to Brian Roberts and his back could be an issue going forward. Sizemore has not played first base before and he is hitting over .300 this season and he could be in the mix and so could Austin Romine, as the team needs more depth at the catcher position.

"Nobody's signing Drew or Morales, not at the money they're asking,'' said the source, who requested anonymity.
