The Green Bay Packers offense has become extremely one-sided ever since Aaron Rodgers went down with a fractured collarbone. Scott Tolzien and Matt Flynn have both failed to get anything moving downfield. Now that Flynn is the starter until further notice, the wide receiving corps is getting restless over the lack of balls being thrown in the air.
Receiver James Jones is one of many frustrated with the quarterback play of the Packers. The veteran has seen his number of targets drop since Flynn was inserted as a starter. Against Detroit, he had just five balls tossed his way. Now he is challenging Flynn or any Packers quarterback to start making the correct throws because the running backs cannot carry all the offense.
"We have to make some throws," Jones said, via the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. "Everybody knows it. It's going to be cold. They're going to stack the box to try to stop James and Lacy. We have to make some throws and we have to make some catches. It will get done. Have you seen Matt make the throws? I've seen him make them before, so I believe he can make them."
Jones is not wrong about the run game. After becoming an early-season star, Eddie Lacy has struggled to get moving in recent weeks. In the Thanksgiving Day loss, the Packers had 24 total rushing yards. Lacy put up 16 yards on 10 carries while James Starks had just two yards on two carries. The opposing defenses are not fooled by the current offensive plan for Green Bay and Jones is hoping that will change soon.
"Everybody knows what's at stake, but everybody knew what was at stake last Thursday and we went out there and kind of laid an egg," Jones said. "Everybody knows what's at stake and we have to go out there and play the kind of football we know how to play. Get back to winning. We have more than enough guys in this building capable of getting a win. We have to find a way."
The Packers are still holding out for the clearance of Rodgers before Sunday's game. If not, the quarterback could be shut down for the remainder of the season as Green Bay falls out of contention for the postseason.
