Manchester United 1-0 Sunderland: Highlights As United Falls Just Short of the Title [VIDEO]

Wayne Rooney's first half goal was enough to get the Reds a 1-0 victory over Sunderland on the last day of the season, but it wasn't enough for the Red to take the title after Manchester City won a wild game in Manchester.

The Reds finish tied on points with the Citizens with 89, but Manchester City's 64 goal difference was eight clear of United's leaving Manchester United out in the cold. United finishes this season without no silverware, save the Charity Shield.

Rooney put the away side up in the 19th minute when he just nudged a bouncing ball around the post at the end of a Phil Jones cross.

United didn't score for the remainder of the game thanks to great plays from Black Cats keeper Simon Mignolet, but that didn't matter. When the final whistle was blown at the Stadium of Light United had a slight edge in the championship.

Manchester City was down 2-1 in stoppage time when the United game ended, but before they could even begin to celebrate Edin Dzeko and Sergio Aguero had scored to take the lead and kill Manchester's title hopes.
