Arsenal Transfer News: Santi Cazorla Excited by the Arrival of 'Spectacular' Mesut Ozil, Plays Down Atletico Madrid Rumors

Arsenal playmaker Santi Cazorla admitted he cannot comprehend why Real Madrid would let go of a player of Mesut Ozil's quality, while rubbishing rumors of a bid from Atletico Madrid in the summer.

Cazorla was Arsenal's player of the season last year and is the current creator-in-chief of the side. The Spanish international will now have some company in the creative department in the mould of Ozil, who signed for Arsenal in a club record deal on transfer deadline day.

The former Villarreal and Malaga man, who was a few years ago close to signing for Real Madrid, said Arsenal have got themselves a "spectacular" player in Ozil.

"I am very happy that Ozil is here," Cazorla told Marca. "He is a spectacular player and we are very lucky (that) we are going to learn alongside him.

"I don't understand that (why Real Madrid sold him), (because) he is a unique player.

"You will have to ask the club for reasons why they sold them, but at the same time he didn't think he was getting the opportunities he deserved and luckily he has come to us.

"He is an important player and he is going to be very good for the team and the way we play. I hope he can help us fight against the big teams in the Premier League."

Cazorla was linked with a move to Atletico earlier in the summer, with the Spanish side reportedly seeing a bid rejected by the Gunners.

Atletico denied making an offer at the time and Cazorla also confirmed there was no chance of him leaving Arsenal, after a brilliant debut season in the English Premier League.

"No (I was not affected by the rumors) because there was never anything in that," Cazorla added.

"Like Cerezo said, there was no offer made and I was always calm about it."
