Patriots Rumors: Michael Jenkins Released As Brandon Lloyd or Deion Branch Free Agent Options For New England?

The New England Patriots are already dealing with the loss of Wes Welker heading into this season and now that Tom Brady is dealing with a knee injury, the team needs to be even more careful on offense and now they head coach has made another move, as Michael Jenkins was released before the second preseason game.

According to Pro Football Talk, Jenkins was released by the Patriots and now the team will go with Danny Amendola, Julian Edelman as well as Aaron Dobson, Josh Boyce and Kenbrell Thompkins. The team is already without Welker, their leading receiver from last season, as well as tight ends Aaron Hernandez and Jake Ballard and now Jenkins is off after the team also got rid of Donald Jones and Lavelle Hawkins and more players could move.

The team could be in the market for names like Brandon Lloyd or Deion Branch, but it appears that Bill Belichick is content to stay with what he has for the foreseeable future. The team got rid of Lloyd despite him making over 70 catches last season so that means he likely won't be back with the team. Branch showed a nice rapport with Brady after coming back last time and that could be in the cards again.

Jenkins could be an option for other teams, including the Chargers and he leaves after being a first round pick by the Falcons back in 2004 and he has made 354 catches during that span. The Patriots have one of the most high powered offenses in the league and after dealing with Brady's injury, the team will be cautious.
