Indian Grand Prix May Be Dropped From 2014 Formula One Calender

The Indian Grand Prix may be dropped from the 2014 Formula One race calendar after F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone was quoted saying the problem if hosting the race at Greater Noida was "very political," according to NDTVSports.com.

"Is India going to happen next year? Probably not," he said, hinting that political reasons made the event a nightmare.

The Buddh International Circuit played host to two F1 races since its establishment in 2011, where Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel saw himself become victorious in both races. Although the initial response to the track have remained positive, there have been niggling issues, including imposing tax on cars and machines that are brought out for the race.

With two other venues in Sochi in Russia and Austria appearing more attractive for a race next year, India's chances of retaining their October race date appear all but at a lost at the moment.

Ecclestone plans the F1 calendar and typically presents it to the International Automobile Federation by September for ratification, and is now currently juggling between 22 races jostling for space.

"It would be a pity if for these (tax) reasons we don't go there," Sauber's Indian-born principal Monisha Kaltenborn said. "India is an important market for partners who are already in Formula One or who could get into Formula One because of that market so it really would be a pity if we would not manage to sort out these problems."
