Andy Murray Score: The Scot Makes History as He Cruises in 1st Round

Andy Murray wasted no time in advancing to the second round after defeating Benjamin Becker in three straight sets 6-4, 6-3, 6-2 at Wimbledon. The Scot could have played cleaner tennis, but now he will look forward to the next round at the grand slam tournament after making history Monday afternoon.

With his first round victory over Becker, Murray has won the most grand slam matches by a male tennis player from Great Britain. Entering Monday's match, Murray had won 106 grand slam matches, tying him with Fred Perry. Once the Becker match concluded, Murray notched the 107th grand slam victory of his career, making history once again at Wimbledon.

Of course winning the tournament is the objective, but Murray finds himself accomplishing feat after feat at Wimbledon and it all started with his appearance in last year's finals. Though he finished as the runner-up after losing to Roger Federer, Murray was the first British player to play in a final at Wimbledon since Bunny Austin did so in 1938. He later won at the Wimbledon, but though it wasn't the grand slam title, Murray got revenge on Federer a month later for the Olympic gold medal. However, people are still waiting for the Wimbledon title to stay in London and Murray got one step closer to accomplishing this dream after beating Becker.

Murray played a bit sloppily, committing 16 unforced errors, but his 11 aces helped him get through the match. Another area of Murray's game he will have to improve is his serving. Only 57 percent (49/86) of his first serves were good. Despite the problems, Murray was able to dispatch Becker in under two hours as the Scot gained momentum as the match progressed.

Next up in the second round, Murray will face either James Ward or Yen-Hsun Lin.
