The Boston Bruins suffered a tough 4-3 loss in triple overtime and the team may have lost more than just the game as the series is now 1-0 for the Blackhawks, as forward Nathan Horton was injured and could miss the next matchup against Chicago.
According to ESPN.com, Horton was injured in the first overtime period and his status for the next game is uncertain with an upper body injury. The Bruins lost the game in triple overtime after a deflection from Andrew Shaw went past goalie Tuukka Rask, who was fantastic while making 59 saves, and now they will have to rally from behind to win the series. The play where Horton was injured happened when he was playing alongside Blackhawks defenseman Niklas Hjalmarsson and he hurt his shoulder as the two tried to gain position on the ice.
Horton went right to the bench and after leaving the ice he did not return to the game. The next matchup is on Saturday night so he will have some time to heal and the Bruins hope he does, as Horton has been one of the most consistent forwards, scoring seven goals and 11 assists for 18 points and now he may be out for the next game. Horton skates on the top line with Milan Lucic and David Krejci and without him scoring will get tougher.
Krejci has been the top scorer for the Bruins, while Lucic had two goals in the game along with one from Patrice Bergeron. The Blackhawks got important goals from Brandon Saad and Dave Bolland and the team will try to keep home ice advantage as they try to take Game 2 on Saturday night at the United Center.
"It sucks," Lucic said. "Everyone knows how big of a player he is for us, especially in the playoffs. He's also shown that he can score big goals at big times."
