Arsenal Transfer News: Gervinho Priority Target for Lyon as Podolski Admits a Move Away Cannot Be Completely Ruled Out

With Arsenal continuing to be linked with big-name signings, a couple of their players could also be headed to the exit door with Lukas Podolski interesting Juventus and Galatasaray and Gervinho the No.1 target for Lyon.

The Gunners are reportedly set to strengthen their forward line this season, with the likes of Stevan Jovetic and Gonzalo Higuain reportedly close to agreeing a move.

Gervinho has had an underwhelming season with Arsenal, and was heavily criticized by the fans after the forward missed some absolute sitters.

The 25-year-old is reportedly on the radar of Lyon, who have targeted him as their "superstar" signing of the summer transfer window, according to Le Foot Gazette Des Transferts.

Arsenal are reportedly ready to allow the player to leave if they receive an offer of around €14 million (£12 million, $18 million), which Lyon are willing to match, as long as they offload some of their players - namely Yoann Gourcuff, Lisandro Lopez and Bafetimbi Gomis.

The Ivory Coast international thrives on confidence and if that belief is not there, he looks like a pub-team player at best.

With Arsenal looking to seriously compete in the next season, a player who needs the unending backing of not just the manager, but also the fans, might not be ideal and it is conceivable that Arsene Wenger could consider selling the player if a suitable offer is received, and of course if he has the ideal replacements in place.

Arsenal are also interested in Lyon's Maxime Gonalons, who is rated around the £15 million ($23 million) mark, and if the two clubs can agree on a cash-plus-player deal it might work out for both sides.

Meanwhile, another player who is being linked with a move away is Podolski, who has had a decent first season, despite reportedly struggling with an ankle problem.

Juventus and Galatasaray have shown the greatest interest in the German international, who only joined Arsenal last summer. Podolski has always said he is enjoying his time with Arsenal and has no plans on moving away, but the 27-year-old admitted anything was possible during the summer transfer window.

"There are always offers, I don't have any influence on that," Podolski told Bild. "Of course I feel honored.

"But, the fact is, I have a contract with Arsenal. There's no reason to leave the club.

"However, in the football business a lot of things are conceivable."

Wenger is unlikely to allow both of his forwards to leave, but one - read Gervinho - is certainly a possibility, even if the manager remains a big fan of the Ivory Coast international.

With the likes of Serge Gnabry, Thomas Eisfeld and Chuba Akpom also showing a lot of promise for the under-21 side, Arsenal certainly have plenty of strength in depth in the forward line.
