Seattle Seahawks Rumors: Bruce Irvin Suspension Highlights Big PED Problem For Pete Carroll As Team Attempts Super Bowl Run In 2013

The Seattle Seahawks have been called one of the most improved teams in the league after the offseason and free agency, but they are also one of the most suspended teams in the league and that got worse after reports came out about Bruce Irvin being nabbed for using performance enhancing substances.

According to Pro Football Talk, Irvin was suspended on Friday for PED use and it is the fifth time under Carroll's watch since 2010 that the team has dealt with PED problems. The stats do not count Richard Sherman's, as he won his appeal, but suspensions include Brandon Browner, Winston Guy, Allen Barbre and John Moffitt and that is by far the most in the league, with the Broncos and Giants behind with four.

In the NFL the only teams that have not have had players suspended include the Bills, Lions, Jaguars, Colts, Chiefs, Jets, Raiders, Cowboys, Eagles and 49ers. After the Giants and 49ers the Patriots, Redskins, Bengals, Texans and Rams all have three. It highlights an issue for the league and the Seahawks, as players have been caught using Adderall and other drugs.

According to the NFL rules: "First-time violators of the policy receive four-game suspensions. The penalty doubles for second-time violators. Third-time violators face suspensions of at least 12 months, subject to reinstatement at the commissioner's discretion. Players suspended under the policy for any length become ineligible for the Pro Bowl or any other NFL or NFL Players Association honors. FL policy requires annual testing for steroids and related substances when training camps begin or whenever a player reports to the team after camps begin. Preseason and regular-season protocol calls for 10 players per team to be tested at random each week. That protocol continues into the postseason for playoff teams. Players under contract can be tested up to six times during an offseason, subject to increases following a positive test."
