Los Angeles Lakers Rumors: Devin Ebanks Likely Gone Next Season, Dwight Howard Future Remains Questionable

As the Los Angeles Lakers plan for next season, they'll probably do so without forward Devin Ebanks.

Ebanks arrived on the Lakers after being drafted in the 2010 NBA Draft out of West Virginia. The promising forward saw his minutes dwindle after a series of off the court incidents, including being busted for a DUI.

Unfortunately for Ebanks that may have led to him seeing the bench for  63 regular season games and all four postseason games against the San Antonio Spurs.

Now according to team beat reporter Eric Pincus of the Los Angeles Times, Ebanks will most certainly not be in Laker land next season.

The Lakers would need to issue Ebanks a $1.3-million qualifying offer this summer to make him a restricted free agent - but it's safe to say they won't.

Ebanks can still be a solid pickup for a team, and his stay in free agency may be short lived.

With Ebanks out, the continued focus on Dwight Howards' future intensifies.

Howard made his seventh All-Star appearance this season, but his 17.1 points per game were his lowest average since his second season in the league, his 12.4 rebounds were his lowest since his third season, and his 49.2 percent mark from the foul line represented the second straight season he's shot less than 50 percent from the charity stripe.

Once he becomes a free agent this offseason, Howard can sign a five-year, $118 million contract to stay with the Lakers, or a four-year, $87.6 million deal with another team.
