Oakland Raiders Rumors: Tim Tebow Option Despite Tyler Wilson Pick, Quarterback Could Backup Matt Flynn As Miami Dolphins and Washington Redskins Likely Future

The Tim Tebow story now moves to the free agency period after the failed experiment that was the New York Jets in 2012 and after being released, the quarterback now has the chance to find a team that wants him and one that will actually give him a chance to succeed.

According to NFL.com, the Oakland Raiders are one of the teams that could be a possibility for Tebow, as they have a fluid quarterback situation and the team knows what he can do after playing against him when he was with the Broncos. The article cites a number of other teams where Tebow could fit (not necessary interested, but fit) including the Cleveland Browns, Chicago Bears, Washington Redskins and Seattle Seahawks.

The Raiders are an interesting option despite the fact that the team drafted Tyler Wilson over the weekend, as Tebow could provide exactly what the Jets said he would when they traded him, a new element to the offense that could be dynamic. If the Raiders used him in certain sets, he could give Matt Flynn a rest while also providing the Raiders with some explosive moves. Tebow was completely underused and wasted in New York and Oakland could use him to help improve the offense after ranking in the bottom half of the league in rushing, although Carson Palmer helped the team to be eighth in passing yards per game, but that was basically due to the fact that the team was playing from behind.

Tebow gained only 102 rushing yards and 39 passing yards while appearing in 77 offensive plays and the team asked him to bulk up to play on special teams and he did so, taking away his explosiveness. This offseason he has been losing weight and working out and after practicing with Chris Weinke and Vinny Testaverde, even the Jets said they were impressed with his work after they released him. Tebow was solid as the starter for the Broncos when he was there and led the team to the playoffs and a postseason win, something that Matt Flynn and Terrelle Pryor have never done.

Despite the fact that the raiders have Flynn and Pryor and now Wilson, Tebow could be a good option because quarterbacks are currency in the NFL and it is a low risk move for the Raiders, as they could cut him after signing him and since he is so cold right now, it won't cost very much. Tebow needs to go somewhere that will allow him to be himself and work within an offense rather than being grossly underused and never given a chance like he was in New York. Head coach Dennis Allen could help Tebow develop as a passer while working behind the quarterbacks and would bring some personality to the silver and black.
