Stanford QB Retires As Josh Nunes Out For Medical Retirement After Arm Injury, Quarterback Started Nine Games For Cardinal Before Rose Bowl Victory

Stanford quarterback Josh Nunes, who started a number of games this season for coach David Shaw, has retired from football after suffering an injury in February.

According to the Associated Press, Nunes hurt his throwing arm earlier in the year and after missing spring practice he decided to retire for medical reasons. The team played and won the Rose Bowl without Nunes starting a 20-14 against Wisconsin in Pasadena. Nunes started nine games for the team and competed over 50 percent of his passes while throwing for 1,643 yards, 10 touchdowns and seven interceptions before Kevin Hogan took over.

Shaw said Nunes suffered a "freak injury" during a workout and the announcement did not say exactly what it was. Nunes was not expected to start next season and now Evan Crower and Dallas Lloyd will have the chance to compete with Hogan.
