Joe Flacco got his big contract extension. Tony Romo got his big contract extension. Aaron Rodgers got his...nope, Rodgers is still waiting. The Green Bay Packers are expected to give Rodgers a large new contract extension soon, but negotiations between the two parties are still on going. The quarterback has proved to be worthy of elite status, constantly being one of the best in the game ever y year, but has yet to be paid like it. Teammate A.J. Hawk believes whatever Rodgers signs for, it still will not be anywhere close to what he is truly worth to the Packers.
"He deserves every dime he's going to get. He's going to get a billion dollars, probably, so I'm OK with anything they want to give him, because he's one of the best in the world and he deserves everything," Hawk said.
Hawk was a free agent this offseason and took a pay cut to remain in Green Bay. While the Packers continue to negotiate on making Rodgers one of the highest paid quarterbacks in the league, Hawk says nothing that he signs for will compare to his true worth.
"Let's be honest, all of us minions have nothing that we can offer Aaron that would even come close to anything that he would get," Hawk told NFL Network.
Rodgers is currently reaching the final two years of his six-year, $65 million deal that he signed back in 2008. He will receive a salary of $9.25 million in 2013 and $10.5 million in 2014. His new contract extension is expected to be around $25 million per year. While Rodgers have proven to be an elite quarterback and one of the best each year in the league, the Packers want his contract to rival those of Joe Flacco and Peyton Manning.
Flacco signed a new deal in the offseason after leading the Baltimore Ravens to a Super Bowl win. His extension was worth $120.6 million over six years. Manning signed a contract with the Denver Broncos worth $18 million per year. Both quarterbacks have been named Super Bowl MVP, just like Rodgers.
Rodgers has league MVP and three-time Pro Bowler to his resume. He has led the Packers to four consecutive playoff appearances. Last season he threw for 4,295 yards and 39 touchdowns while the team lost to the San Francisco 49ers in the playoffs. Rodgers is expected to sign the contract extension sometime prior to the start of the 2013 season.
