After putting in another match-winning performance this season, Frank Lampard is set to be offered a new contract by Chelsea to extend his stay at Stamford Bridge beyond the season.

It was understood, Lampard would leave Chelsea after 12 stellar years of service, following the hierarchy's decision to not offer the midfielder fresh terms. With his contract set to expire at the end of the season, Lampard was expected to move to pastures anew.

However, Chelsea have changed their minds completely and are ready to offer the veteran a new contract, according to an exclusive from the Daily Mail.

Roman Abramovich was adamant about the fact that the new Chelsea would be filled with young playmakers, capable of playing a quick and eye-catching style, leaving the likes of Lampard to find a new club.

However, the 34-year-old has been in stellar goalscoring form this season, already finding the back of the net 10 times, pushing him to within just five goals of Bobby Tambling's all-time record.

Chelsea fans have also shown their discontent at the decision to let go of one of their modern day legends, which has in turn played a major part in Abramovich reconsidering his decision.

According to the report, tentative talks have already taken place over a new contract, with a fresh round of talks set to take place after this weekend.

Lampard scored the winner against Brazil in the friendly at Wembley Wednesday, again proving his effectiveness in big games.

England manager Roy Hodgson also asked the veteran midfielder to stay in Europe, instead of signing for the L.A. Galaxy, where he has been tipped to move come the end of the season.

Lampard, though, speaking after the Brazil game, said he would make whatever feels like is the right decision for him, regardless of the consequences.

When asked if he would be tempted to resolve his club future as soon as possible to ensure he reaches that landmark 100 caps for England, Lampard, who has 94 appearances to his name, told Sky Sports: "No, because I won't retire.

"Wherever I go, whatever happens in my career -- and I don't honestly know -- if I can play at a great level of football and play at my best I will just see what happens.

"If I don't get to 100 caps, I have given everything in every game I have played.

"When you get older, you realise even more what it is to play for your country; that it won't go on for ever."

Lampard has reportedly received a two-and-a-half year offer from the L.A. Galaxy, while there has also been interest from several Italian clubs, with Paris Saint Germain and Monaco also a possibility.
