Martin Skrtel could yet make a shock return to his old club Zenit St. Petersburg, with the Russian side looking to entice the Liverpool defender to leave Anfield.

Skrtel has been one of the mainstays of the Liverpool defense for the past couple of years, and was their player of the year last season.

However, the last couple of games has seen Brendan Rodgers prefer the experience of Jamie Carragher over the Slovakian and while that is hardly a reason to leave the club, Zenit are willing to make a £13 million ($20 million) offer, according to the Daily Mail.

The transfer window in Russia only closes on Feb. 24, so there is plenty of time for Zenit to agree a deal, if Liverpool were to listen, which again is unlikely.

Rodgers will not be ready to lose a player at this time of the season, without ample backup. And there is no doubt that Skrtel is still well in the manager's plans, with Liverpool's other central defender Sebastian Coates yet to convince.

The 28-year-old joined Liverpool from Zenit in 2008 after spending nearly four years with the Russian side.

Meanwhile, first-team coach Mike Marsh has given an update on the injuries to Raheem Sterling and Daniel Sturidge which forced them to withdraw from the England U-21 and senior team respectively.

Sturridge was forced to pull out of the friendly against Brazil after sustaining a thigh injury in the 2-2 draw against Manchester City, while Sterling has been battling a dead leg.

"They've both been in for treatment," Marsh told the club's official website.

"They were not available to play for England due to the injuries they've picked up.

"Raheem's has been a bit more long standing -- in old school terms, he's got a dead leg -- and Daniel picked his up at the weekend, but with a bit of luck and treatment hopefully they'll both be available for Monday night (against West Brom)."
