Bourn Slides in Safely
Washington Nationals catcher Kurt Suzuki (L) stretches for a late tag on Atlanta Braves runner Michael Bourn (24), who was safe, in the seventh inning at their MLB National League baseball game at Turner Field."

When thinking of Michael Bourn, speed, durability and great defense comes to mind. The New York Mets seem like the front runners in the Bourn Sweepstakes as they have enough money and space in the outfield to use his talents. The only problem is that when you think Bourn, Scott Boras comes to mind as well. Despite this minor glitch, Mets fans are saying, "the hell with it! Let's get him at a good price!" and Ike Davis sure wouldn't mind adding the speedster.

Fans commented on MLBTradeRumors.com's post about the Mets potentially acquiring Bourn. This is what two of them had to say.

It's a very elaborate post from a fan. He breaks down the pros and cons deciding that Bourn is still the answer for the Mets and a decent investment. Although, there's no way a Boras client would accept a one-year deal.

Then there's this guy.

Athletes were expected to be at the end of their career, more specifically, speed guys. Like Christopher Soto explains, a three year deal wouldn't hurt and wouldn't keep the Mets locked in for a long time.

The Boston Red Sox signed a couple of players for three years and freed themselves from the long contracts they gave players a few years ago.

The Mets have had terrible luck in recent years with big contracts. Johan Santana has spent some time out due to injuries, but when healthy, he performed.

The worst contract for the Mets right now has to be Jason Bay's. It was only a four-year deal, but these past three have felt like an eternity. The Mets relieved themselves of the headache this offseason and Bay will begin a new career in Seattle.

The Mets' first baseman, Davis, wouldn't mind having Bourn on base when he's up at bat. The Mets don't have a legit leadoff hitter, which is why Bourn looks so attractive. He can steal bases and give the Mets what they had when Jose Reyes made his living in New York; terror the bases pads.

"As a guy that likes to drive in runners, I would love Bourn to be on the bases when I'm hitting just because how he changes the game," Davis said.

Bourn can play defense and he's exciting on offense. There's no reason not to like him.

Currently, Boras is still looking for an employer as his free agent is the best available on the market right now. The Texas Rangers and Seattle Mariners are still considered possible landing spots for the speedy outfielder.

Bourn is coming of a career year where he smacked nine home runs. In 2012, he batted .274, stole 42 bags and drove in 57 runs as a member of the Atlanta Braves. He turned 30 on Dec. 27 of 2012.
