The family that was portrayed in the film "The Bind Side" will be in New Orleans for the Super Bowl with actress Sandra Bullock to cheer and root for their son Michael Oher, who was the subject of the movie.
Oher spoke to the media on Friday and saidf that Leigh Anne and Sean Tuohy will be in New Orleans for the big game on Sunday.
"Yeah," he said to ESPN.com, with a look that implied that it was a silly question. "I've got them coming to the game. They're still my family."
Actress Sandra Bullock, who starred as Tuohy's wife, Leigh Anne, owns a home in New Orleans and will be joining the family and Oher in celebrating the game.
"And there are people that think that's a coincidence," Sean Tuohy said. "How stupid is that?
"We've got a huge sign in our garage that says: 'We believe in miracles,'" he continued. "For other people, it may be hard to understand that. For us, it's easy."
Oher was originally the subject of a book by Michael Lewis titled "The Bind Side", which looked at the position of left tackle in the NFL along with the story of Oher, who grew up in a rough neighborhood and was taken in by the Tuohy family at the age of 17. In the film and book, Lewis detailed his story of being one of 12 children of an addict mother and absent father.
Oher, who was played by actor Quinton Aaron in the film, has some problems with it, although he knows it made him a household name.
"I'm tired of the movie," Oher said to ESPN.com. "I'm here to play football."
The film made over $300 million dollars and Bullock's portrayal of Tuohy won her the Academy Award for Best Actress.
"Michael gets exasperated because he thinks the movie makes him look bad," Leigh Anne Tuohy said during an interview with espnW, in a voice sounding full of love. "I say, 'You know what? Get over yourself! It's not always about you.' Really, S.J. is the one who comes out on the short end of the stick, not Michael."
Oher has been one of the most important players for the Ravens and he has been a consistent force on the offensive line since being drafted out of Ole Miss in 2009. Oher was a teammate of San Francisco 49ers linebacker Patrick Willis and Tuohy remembers the two of them from school.
"I can remember when Patrick Willis and Michael would sit in our living room and practice writing their autographs," Leigh Anne Tuohy said. "Well now they're really doing that and we're just really proud."
Like Oher, Willis also was raised by foster parents.
"These are great guys," Leigh Anne Tuohy said. "So their stories give us a platform to go around and say, there's a lot of great kids out there that need a chance."
