Manchester United Transfer News: German Goalkeeper Weiss Confirms United Interest

Young German goalkeeper Fabien Speiss confirmed Manchester United are keeping tabs on him.

Speiss made his debut for Notts County earlier this week, and the 18-year-old has been tipped for a bright future.

The German joined Notts County in 2010-11 and has made great progress with everyone at the League One club expecting big things from the teenager.

Speiss was impressive in his first game and said he was not going to let the United interest go to his head.

"You can't lose your head just because someone says Manchester United want you," he told the Notingham Evening Post.

"I'm a young goalkeeper and I'm really happy at Notts County and determined to take my chance."

Notts County manager Keith Curle gave the youngster his debut, after initially sending him out on loan spells to gain some experience, and the club boss feels Weiss can only get better given time.

"Fabien Speiss was excellent, he put in a very assured performance," Curle told BBC Radio Nottingham.

"His handling was good, he made the correct decisions when coming for crosses and dealing with things."

United have been linked with a move for a goalkeeper all January, with Sir Alex Ferguson reportedly ready to let David De Gea go in the summer.

The Spanish goalkeeper himself is reportedly homesick, with Barcelona, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid all interested in bringing him back to his homeland.

United are reportedly monitoring both Victor Valdes and Iker Casillas, while Asmir Begovic is also being considered. A summer move for the Stoke goalkeeper now looks possible after the Potters bought Jack Butland from Birmingham City before the transfer window shut Thursday.

While Speiss will not be a first choice goalkeeper at a club of Manchester United's magnitude anytime soon, Ferguson will not hesitate too much to bring him in and mould him into a future No. 1 goalkeeper.

"He's got a lot of ability and a great attitude, he's very mature and physically very big so he commands his box," Notts County head of youth Mick Leaonard said of his goalkeeper.

"I wouldn't be surprised if any of the big clubs did want him."
