New York Rangers News: Ryan Callahan To Miss 10-14 Days With Shoulder Injury

Jan 31, 2013 09:36 AM EST

New York Rangers captain Ryan Callahan will officially miss 10-14 days after injuring his shoulder in Tuesday night's game against Philadelphia. Callahan underwent an MRI on Wednesday and was diagnosed with a subluxation of his left shoulder. With the Rangers' schedule, Callahan will miss six games over the next 10-14 day period, starting with the team's Atlantic Division rivals, Pittsburgh, at home on Thursday night.

Callahan injured his should in the third period after getting into a fight with Flyers' Max Talbot. The two got into a scuffle around the Rangers' net and after being dragged down by Talbot, Callahan left the ice dangling his left arm, heading straight for the locker room. He did not return to the game.

Earlier in the second period, Callahan scored what would be the game winning goal off a power play, putting the Rangers up 2-0. The goal was his 200th point of his carear.

The Rangers will certainly miss Callahan's presence over the next two weeks. The team is currently sitting in third in the Atlantic Division and in eighth in the Eastern Conference after getting off to a slow start this year. While he only has two goals on the season so far, Callahan is one of the best defensive forwards and penalty killers in the league.  The Rangers have won back-to-back games after they started the season dropping three of their last four games.

Rangers head coach John Tortorella believes it will not be a problem filling Callahan's role while he is out. Tortorella told media on Wednesday that he has full confidence the team will rise to the occasion and other players will step in to fill the void.

The New York Rangers will look to complete a three-game homestand sweep when they face the Penguins tonight at 7 p.m. ET.
