Liverpool Transfer Rumours: Zarate Could be the Latest Addition as Coutinho Completes Medical

After raiding Inter Milan for Philippe Coutinho, Liverpool could make prize another player from Italy by bringing in forward Mauro Zarate from Lazio.

Coutinho reportedly completed his medical successfully with Liverpool Tuesday, with the Reds set to announce the signing officially Wednesday.

While some work permit issues still remain, Liverpool are increasingly confident of completing all the necessary paperwork well before the Thursday deadline.

Brendan Rodgers will be ecstatic about sealing the signing of a player still tipped to have a bright future, despite stagnating a little at Inter Milan.

Another South American who could be on his way to Anfield is Zarate, with Liverpool seriously considering making a bid for the Lazio man.

The Argentine has been frozen out at Lazio this season, only making one Serie A appearance, along with a few run outs in the Europa League.

Zarate is desperate to manufacture a move away from the Rome club, with plenty of interest coming from the English Premier League, where he previously had a successful loan spell with Birmingham City in 2008.

Along with Liverpool, Sunderland and Stoke City are also reportedly interested in the winger, according to the Daily Express, and if Rodgers decides to move for the 25-year-old, he will have to do so quickly with the transfer window set to close Thursday night.

The need for a player like Zarate, who is really yet to prove himself on a consistent basis, can be questioned, with Liverpool already having enough attacking players on the wings in their ranks, while going for a player like Keisuke Honda of CSKA Moscow would be more advisable, although the Japanese would cost a lot more.

Zarate, though, might be worth a gamble, with a loan move until the end of the season also a possibility; and if the switch turns out to be successful, Liverpool can make the deal permanent.
