Manchester United Transfer Rumours: Begovic Wants Old Trafford Move; Double Deal for Garay and Ogbonna Lined Up

Manchester United target Asmir Begovic wants to move to Old Trafford in the summer, with the Red Devils looking to offload David De Gea.

Stoke goalkeeper Begovic is one of the players identified by Ferguson as De Gea's replacement, were he to decide to sell the Spaniard at the end of the season.

While United are also monitoring the situation involving Victor Valdes and Iker Casillas, Begovic will provide solidity to United's goalline and the fact that he is familiar with the environs of the English Premier League will also work in his favor.

De Gea has flattered to deceive in his time at Old Trafford, failing to come to terms with the physical aspect of the English game, although his shotstopping has been admirable.

The young Spaniard has been linked with moves back to Spain in recent weeks with both Real Madrid and Barcelona, along with Atletico Madrid, showing an interest.

De Gea is reportedly homesick and would be open to a return to his home country, leaving the door open for Begovic to take United's No.1 goalkeeping position.

Arsenal and Liverpool have also been linked with a move for the 25-year-old, but Begovic has his heart set on a move to United, according to The Sun.

The Bosnian has been in stellar form this season, helping Stoke to one of the best defensive records in the Premier League. At 25, he can only get better, and United are reportedly open to matching the £15 million ($24 million) transfer fee set to be demanded by Stoke.

Meanwhile, United are continuing their pursuit of Ezequiel Garay and Angelo Ogbonna as long-term replacements for Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic.

It is believed United are close to striking a deal with Benfica to bring in Garay in the summer, while Torino's Ogbonna remains on the club's radar.

Ferdinand is expected to leave Old Trafford at the end of the season, and the continuing injury problems to Vidic has led to Ferguson looking at possible replacements so United don't end up short in the central defensive department, despite also having Jonny Evans, Chris Smalling and Phil Jones in his squad.
