"That crash on my first run was my fault," Woods said to ESPN after being asked about any equipment failure. "I knew in the back of my head I could fix that and throw down a good run."

Norway's Andreas Håtveit and X Games rookie Alex Bellemare from Canada finished out the top three in the qualifiers. Tom Wallisch was the favorite before the day after winning the event last year, but he failed to advance after crashing on his first run. He was checked out for a concussion and had surgery for a heart contusion on Friday morning. His brother Colten was also injured after separating his pelvis, but his injuries did not require surgery.

"While Caleb was being evaluated late last night, he developed bleeding around the heart and was urgently flighted to Grand Junction [Colo.]," according to an X Games Medical report issued Friday morning. "He underwent surgery this morning. The procedure went well, and Caleb is currently in ICU with a heart contusion."
