Singer Sherly Crow, who was romantically involved with cyclist Lance Armstrong from 2003 to 2006, discussed her former flames revelation that he used performance-enhancing drugs and expressed her appreciation for him finally coming clean.

"I think that honesty is always the best bet and that the truth will set you free," Crow said. "It must be really hard to walk around knowing you are not telling the truth about something. So I always contend that the truth is the best way to go."

Crow said she watched portions of Armstrong's interview with Oprah Winfrey last week where he acknowledged that he used performance-enhancing drugs in his quest to become an American cycling champion. He claimed to have been clean in 2005 and in his 2009 and 2010 races.

Crow was with him during his final two Tour de France victories.

"I know how hard he worked to win those titles, and you know, it was hard to watch," Crow said. "I felt bad. I felt bad for him, I felt bad for his family, and I kinda felt like the rest of America. He is a hero that we watched and looked up to and admire."

The Grammy winner has been relatively quiet about Armstrong's fall from grace since the explosive report, but she told Katie Couric last year that she "felt bad" about what he was going through.

"I felt bad for [Armstrong], I felt bad for his family and I kinda felt like the rest of America," she said.
