Arsenal Transfer Rumours: Arsene Wenger to Leave for PSG Next Season?

Jan 19, 2013 11:54 PM EST

Arsene Wenger has been courted by clubs around the world during his reign at Arsenal, with Real Madrid the most diligent of the clubs. Now, Paris Saint Germain has joined the chase by offering the Frenchman a lucrative package to try and tempt him to leave his beloved Arsenal.

Wenger has not been under as much pressure as he is now, with his team constantly faltering, and trophy-less days seemingly increasing with every passing season.

While Wenger has insisted he always honors his contract, which ends in 2014, a move back to his home country can never be ruled out.

PSG, backed by rich owners from the Middle East, unhappy with the progress of their club under Carlo Ancelotti, are looking for a replacement in the summer, with Wenger topping their list.

The French club are ready to offer the Arsenal manager a massive three-year £30 million ($48 million) deal, worth £10 million a year ($16 million), according to the Daily Mirror. Wenger currently earns around £7 million a year ($11 million).

Also another intriguing aspect is the fact that, Ancelotti would reportedly be open to a move to take over at Arsenal as Wenger's replacement.

The Italian has still not quite stamped his authority with the French club, and talks were spreading on the fact the Ancelotti could make a return to Real Madrid in the summer, with Jose Mourinho going the other way.

However, with Wenger now reportedly in PSG's plans, there could be yet another twist to the story, although Arsenal fans will be disappointed to see their No. 1 candidate to replace Wenger - Pep Guadiola -- already agreeing a deal with Bayern Munich.

Meanwhile, Wenger is hoping desperately that midfielder Abou Diaby will finally be able to put to rest his injury problems, which have plagued him during his entire career with Arsenal.

"It is a big period for him -- he is conscious of that," Wenger said. "He does everything, but you do not want to put any pressure on him. Because he has enough, he puts himself under so much pressure.

"He is a very conscientious guy. You should see how he works, how he is focused every day, because when a guy suffers as much as he did he becomes very professional, very rigorous.

"You have some guys who can drink five beers, come to training, and play and go home and nothing happens to them. And you have other guys who have to look after everything. They become very professional very early in life. And he has always been very conscientious.

"Diaby has a very serious life, he doesn't drink, doesn't smoke, doesn't go out, and is very conscientious in training. So you always feel sorry for him, so you always touch wood it will go well for him. Honestly, what he has gone through is unbelievable."
