For the 49ers, they had a bit of drama in 2012 after Alex Smith was substituted at the quarterback position by Collin Kaepernick in the second half of the season.
The 49ers bring one of the best defenses in the team allowing the 2nd fewest points in the NFL as opponents averaged only 17 points per game.
The Packers present at best, an average defense all around. So this matchup on defense goes to the 49ers.
Rodgers has the advantage in the quarterback matchup. He's consistent and has one of the most accurate and strongest arms in the league. Kaepernick is good, but he needs more seasoning and this will be his first playoff start of the year.
The 49ers have the better running game with Frank Gore. The Packers had a tough time finding their identity on the ground all season long.
