The Oregon Ducks took out the Kansas State Wildcats 35-17 and captured the 2013 Tostito Fiesta Bowl as their dynamic offense was too much on this night.
Rookie quarterback Marcus Mariota overshadowed Collin Klein as he passed for 166 yards and two touchdowns. He also ran it for 62 yards and had a rushing touchdown.
Klein and the Wildcat offense were barely present in this one. He threw for 151 yards, had one touchdown and two interceptions. The second one completely sealed the game and ended his college career. Klein finished with one rushing touchdown.
The Ducks took the lead just 12 seconds into the game with a 94-yard kickoff return in the first play from De'Anthony Thomas. The Ducks showed they were fast and didn't waste time proving they wanted this one.
Thomas later struck again in a 23-yard screen play and took it to the house after breaking two tackles and knocking down his own blocker.
Both teams took their chances by going for fourth down and the Ducks almost lost their lead because of their risk taking mentality.
The Wildcats had a chance to make it a two-point game before the half. Kicker Anthony Cantele missed a 40-yard field goal. With a minute remaining the Ducks took exactly 46 seconds to strike as they scored their third touchdown of the first half.
The TD was set up with two passes up the seam to tight end Colt Lyerla. Mariota then hit Kenjon Barner, who was wide open up the sideline, for a 24-yard score and quickly took the momentum right from the hands of the Wildcats.
John Hubert finally got the Wildcats on the board almost four minutes into the fourth quarter with a nice run after the pitch from Klein. He went in after a 10-yard gain. However, this just made the game 32-17 as the Ducks completely dominated.
The running game sealed the deal for the Ducks and they won their second consecutive bowl game in what could be Chip Kelly's last as coach of Oregon.
