Rafa Benitez Bemused by Team's Performance After QPR Shock Chelsea at Stamford Bridge

Chelsea's chances of challenging for the title were seriously damaged after they were shocked by bottom club Queens Park Rangers 1-0 in their English Premier League clash Wednesday.

The Blues, who had two games in hand going into the game at Stamford Bridge against QPR, were expected to close the gap to their title rivals Manchester United and Manchester City, but now remain, but now remain in fourth place, fourteen and seven points behind respectively.

Chelsea old boy Shaun Wright-Phillips scored the all-important goal, 12 minutes from time to give Harry Redknapp's side a much-needed three points.

Despite the loss, Benitez refused to rule out the club's chances of challenging for the Premier League crown.

"I didn't like to talk about this before, and I don't like to talk about this now," Benitez told Sky Sports.

"I think we have to approach every game, think about this idea of one game at a time ... and see what happens at the end.

"I will not say this (whether Chelsea are still capable of winning the title). Every game will be important for us, that is it."

Benitez's decision to rest the likes of Juan Mata, the creative heartbeat of the team, and Eden Hazard backfired spectacularly, and the interim manager was bemused by his team's performance.

"A lot of things went wrong today (Wednesday)," Benitez added.

"We knew we were playing against the bottom-of-the-table side and we spoke about that.

"We knew we had to be focused but we did not have the tempo and some players may have been tired."

QPR manager Redknapp was understandably ecstatic with his side's victory, and felt the result vindicated his belief that his side are indeed capable of beating the drop.

"After Sunday's defeat by Liverpool it was difficult to convince anyone we could survive," he was quoted as saying by the BBC.

"But the players have set the standard with this win and to get out of this mess they have to do it every week.

"That was our first away win in the league since October 2011 and let's hope we can build on it. There's still a long way to go but that was encouraging.

"The players worked their socks off and they got their rewards. We deserved it and it was a fantastic performance.

"We had a good meeting after the Liverpool match and I convinced the players we can stay up.

"Everybody else thought I was mad but I do genuinely believe it. We're not doomed, we can turn it around."
