There are plenty of teams that can use a guy like Bill Cowher on their sideline and the latest rumors involve the former Pittsburgh Steelers coach landing somewhere in the NFC.

The favorite, as Bleacher Report had it, would be for the Chicago Bears. Cowher has been out of the game since 2006, but the Bears are set up for success. They have one of the best defenses in the league headed by, the still active, Brian Urlacher and Charles Tillman who are holding it down in the Windy City.

As the report in Bleacher has it, Cowher traditionally had a tough defense and a great running game while in Pittsburgh. The Bears also possess one of the top running backs in the league with Matt Forte. Forte came off a season where he rushed for 1,094 yards and five touchdowns.

If we remember well, Jerome Bettis was still the back for the Steelers when Cowher was still around, so a running game and dealing with stars is something the former head coach has dealt with in the past.

Of course, Jay Cutler and Brandon Marshall are atop of the NFL's list of players franchises would take precaution with, but with his 149 career victories, two AFC Championships and Super Bowl XL victory, Cowher shouldn't have a problem commanding respect as his record and accolades speak for themselves.

The Bears have tremendous talent on their club, but their offense was lacking and couldn't keep up with the effort their defense put on display week after week.

However, as great as the idea sounds, getting Cowher to come out of retirement is a little tougher than many might think. He would want an extreme amount of control in all facets of the organization including control in the front office and player personnel.

Not only this, but it is well known that Cowher was not really too sad while announcing his retirement and has recently said that he will not return because he doesn't "miss it enough."

So for now, the rumors will persist until all the teams without head coaches have the position filled.

One head coaching guru available and heavily rumored of a return is Jon Gruden. So for now, Cowher, who is an NFL analyst for CBS, has company in possible coaches away from the game that might be due for a return.

Aside from the Bears the Kansas City Chiefs, Philadelphia Eagles, Arizona Cardinals and San Diego Chargers are among teams shopping for head coaches.
