After sealing a comfortable 3-0 victory over Queens Park Rangers at the weekend, Liverpool will be keen to continue that form when they host Sunderland in their English Premier League game.

The Reds are currently tenth on 28 points from 20 matches, but could move up to eighth with a win over a Sunderland side desperate to get back to winning ways following the disappointing 2-1 loss to Tottenham.

Martin O'Neill's men are four points off the drop zone on 22 points from 20 games.

"I love the expectancy and challenge of making this great club great again. I believe as we grow and work more together we will improve," Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers said.

"This is a period of time where you have to keep your head down and work hard and give the players every chance to perform. The second half of the season, and in particular the last 10 games, I believe you are working to because that is the business end when things are decided.

"When you arrive at that period you want to get yourself in a good position to challenge, whether that is in the league or cup competitions. We can still achieve our objectives this season so when you can do that going into the second part of the season it gives you real hope."

O'Neill is wary of the threat posed by Liverpool's main man Luis suarez, who scored two wonderful goals against QPR.

"Liverpool are a fine side with some good players," O'Neill said. "They're just finding their feet at the minute and they've got a real calibre of player at their disposal in Luis Suarez. It will be a difficult test.

"Anfield is a great place to go and a great stadium for us to play football. We might be able to get a lift from that. It's a tough place to start the year."

Jose Enrique will miss the game through injury for Liverpool, meaning Stewart Downing is likely to slot back into the role. Sunderland will also be without a key defender after skipper John O'Shea was ruled out. Danny Rose, though, returns, after being ineligible to play against his parent club Spurs.
