Arsenal Transfer News: Wilshere Could Pave the Way to a Bright Future for Arsenal

When Arsenal fans need that promise of a bright tomorrow; when things are not looking too good, they think of a certain England international who is a Gooner through and through and is ready to give it his all for the team's cause.

Jack Wilshere is one of the brightest sparks in the Arsenal setup at the moment and the news that the 20-year-old signed a new long-term contract to stay with the club was met with as much relief as there was happiness.

Arsene Wenger, when he first took over at Arsenal a little over 16 years ago, said it would take some time for England to produce its own players from the academy setup.

The Frenchman, despite saying he would always look to repose his faith in British youngsters when the time was right, was often criticized for fielding too many foreigners in his lineup.

The fact of the matter was there just weren't that many bright young English players - with the country's success rate in international tournaments a testament to that fact.

But slowly and gradually as the academy systems across the country started to improve, England started producing more technically gifted players - and Wilshere is one of the foremost talents from that production line.

Even if the likes of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Aaron Ramsey or Carl Jenkinson might not be from the Arsenal youth setup, the fact of the matter was Wenger saw something in them and was willing to take a punt, like he did with Theo Walcott.

There is enough talent now coming across England, and it is only bound to improve over the years, to repose your faith in them - although Wenger might have been swayed a little by the lack of loyalty shown by some of the foreign players he had developed.

"He's always been there for me," Wilshere told the Official Arsenal Magazine about Wenger. "He showed faith in me when I was 18, and he stuck with me throughout the whole time I was injured.

"He knew the only thing that would get me better is games, and he stood by me. I need to thank him for that, and yes, he was a big part of why I signed."

Another important aspect was the fact that Wilshere genuinely loves the club he has been with since he was a little kid.

"This is my home, my family are 20 minutes away from the training ground, and my friends are all around here," he added.

"I was brought up at this club and it was an easy decision to extend my contract. We just needed to get a few things right, which didn't take long and I'm really happy that my future is sorted."

Arsenal, during their barren spell of seven years, have not had a stable squad which has fought for each other and been there during thick and thin over a lone period of time. Wenger, after seeing his "Invincibles" dismantled, has had to build a new team every couple of years, which again has not helped in Arsenal garnering any sort of success.

With Wilshere, Ramsey, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Gibbs and Jenkinson signing on the dotted line, the Gunners fans can look to a more stable future.

"I'm very happy here. I've signed a long-term deal, I'm not 21 yet and I see my future here. We have got a good crop of young players, and good young English players as well," Wilshere said.

"We've got (Francis) Coquelin, Ramsey too -- we are all coming through together and we are all improving as we get more experience.

"Chambo's 19, I'm 20, Jenko is 20, Gibbs too. When you get to 25 or 26 that's when you hit your peak and we all want to be here for that.

"We want to create something and we want to win things for Arsenal together."

Now if Wenger can convince Walcott to join the list, there just might be a bright light at the end of the tunnel.
