We've heard this before, "The world is going to end!" Remember the frenzy created by Y2K and the first eclypse of the new millenium? Well the Mayan calendar created apocalyptic myths as well, but as we live on, how about we get ready for a Saturday filled with sports?

The highlight on Saturday's sports' schedule features the Atlanta Falcons taking on the Detroit Lions for the traditional Saturday night game of the year.

Kickoff is at 8:30 p.m. ET and you can catch the action on ESPN.

If you want sports earlier in the day, then we have sports for you that you can enjoy with your breakfast or lunch.

First up on Saturday, (morning for those in the east coast of the U.S. and afternoon for those in Europe) you have a tray full of soccer as the English Primier League takes center stage.

Beginning at 7:45 a.m. ET/12:45 p.m. GMT, Arsenal takes the pitch as they get ready to face Wigan.

At 12 p.m. ET over in the U.S., college football will have one of its numerous bowls wrap up the season. The East Carolina Pirates take on the Louisana-Lafayette Ragin' Cajuns in the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl.

This game will be followed by the Washington Huskies vs. (19) Boise St. at 3:30 p.m. ET in the MAACO Bowl in Las Vegas.

And of course, if there's anything we can thank 2012 for, it has to be the prompt start to the NBA season. Last year at this time there was no NBA, plenty of hockey, but the NBA season was still a couple of days from first tip.

Highlighting a full evening of action will be the Chicago Bulls vs. Atlanta Hawks and the pesky Utah Jazz vs. the unstoppable Miami Heat.
