According to league sources, the deal would pay Lin $5 million in the first season, $5.2 million in the second, and then would increase to as much as $10 million per year in the third and fourth seasons."

On the eve of his return to Madison Square Garden after signing with the Houston Rockets during the off season, ex-Knick point guard Jeremy Lin said he has been "terrible" this season and has not lived up to his potential.

When asked to assessed his season, Lin said: "Terrible. I think I'm not doing close to what I'm capable of doing and it's a matter of figuring out how to get myself to play more like myself within the system with the change of scenery. I'll be my harshest critic but I'll go ahead and say it: I'm doing terrible.''

Lin is averaging just 10.8 points, 6.0 assists and shooting 39.5 percent from the field this season.

Lin also is admittedly anxious to put his first appearance at MSG, since the trade, behind him.

"Definitely, I'm definitely ready to get it over with just because I think in some sense there will be some closure,'' Lin said. "This will probably be the first return back to MSG and there will never be another first return. So we're going to go out there and play and have some fun and enjoy it and move on.''

Though Lin is uncertain of what kind of response he'll receive from Knicks' fans, some current Knicks players believe he should receive a warm welcome back.

Knicks guard Raymond Felton, who was brought in to replace Lin, wants the Garden faithful to cheer Lin on.

"They should. By all means, I hope they do," Felton said. "They should give him a standing ovation when he comes back here, without a doubt."

"I think they're going to give him a heck of an ovation. I'd be shocked if it was anything else," added Steve Novak, one of Lin's closest friends on the Knicks. "Unless everybody changed their mind and hates him, he's one of those guys that people are going to remember for his time here. It wasn't a very long time, but it was special. He played unbelievably well. I think there will be a movie about it one day."
