Arsenal Transfer Rumours: Gunners on the Trail of Bayern Munich's Brazilian Star?

Arsene Wenger is going far and wide in his attempts to bring in fresh faces during the January transfer window, with Bayern Munich hard man Luis Gustavo the latest to be linked with a move.

Wenger went into the season believing Abou Diaby was finally going to be able to put all his injury worries behind him and become the midfield powerhouse that Arsenal have been lacking since the departure of Patrick Vieira.

However, after a couple of weeks of encouragement, where Diaby looked like the player that every single Arsenal fan knew he was, but was unable to see due to being plagued by injuries, the French international broke down yet again and hasn't been able to get himself back on the pitch since.

The Gunners put in a serious bid for Celtic midfielder Victor Wanyama in the summer, but was rebuffed by the Scottish club, saying their player was not for sale. While Mikel Arteta and Jack Wilshere, along with Santi Cazorla, are forming a partnership, Arsenal do need a powerhouse in the middle of the park.

Mohamed Diame was recently linked with a move, and now added to that list is Bayern's Gustavo. According to the Daily Mirror, the 25-year-old is reportedly upset with his peripheral role in the Bayern setup, and had a falling out with manager Jupp Heynckes.

Gustavo has impressed whenever he has been on the pitch for Bayern since making a £12 million ($19 million) move from Hoffenheim, but has now fallen down the pecking order following the arrival if Javi Martinez from Athletic Bilbao.

Since Bastian Schweinsteiger -- a player that Arsenal have been linked with heavily in the rumor forums, but never is a realistic target -- always the first choice as one of the central midfielders, Gustavo has seen his chances diminish considerably.

Wenger is ready to take advantage of that fact and put in a bid for the Brazilian international, with the Arsenal manager hoping £10 million ($16 million) will suffice to tempt Bayern to let their player go.
