New York Giants defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul filed a lawsuit Wednesday against ESPN and reporter Adam Schefter for violating his privacy by posting photos of his medical records after the Giants pass rusher injured his hand in a Fourth of July fireworks accident, according to Michael O'Keeffe of the New York Daily News.

Pierre-Paul's lawsuit claims that Schefter violated Florida law by sharing his medical charts on Twitter on July 8, which was only days after the fireworks accident. The suit claims that "Schefter improperly obtained Plaintiff's medical records from a hospital and then, out of a selfish desire to 'break news,' electronically blasted the records to approximately 4 million Twitter followers and made it available to anyone worldwide with internet access," via the New York Daily News.

Pierre-Paul is seeking more than $15,000 in damages, claiming that Schefter "improperly obtained" his medical records from Miami's Jackson Memorial Hospital. Multiple players around the league spoke out against ESPN and Schefter following the post, and it led players to question both his and ESPN's ethics for posting a photo of the medical records. The tweet sent out by Schefter can be seen below.

Jackson Memorial Hospital launched an investigation and has since fired the two employees responsible for "inappropriately" accessing a patient's health record. Schefter has since said that he could have "done more" to protect Pierre-Paul's privacy but that he was doing his job and trying to be thorough and accurate by using "supporting proof" that the incident had happened.

The Giants defensive lineman was able to return to the field midseason during the 2015 season and is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent in March. The Giants reportedly want Pierre-Paul back next season but will not overpay for the pass rusher, as the Giants front office is looking to fill multiple holes on the defensive side of the ball this offseason.
